Colonoscopy

The Lacks Cancer Center offers a variety of screening techniques for colorectal cancer, however, the most common and most effective is the colonoscopy. This minimally invasive procedure involves a visual examination of the colon using a flexible fiber optic (light weight plastic fibers used to carry information) endoscope. Electronic signals are transmitted through the fibers up the scope to a computer, which displays a high-resolution image of the colon. There is a tube-like passage in the scope, which also allows small instruments to pass through it so tissue samples can be taken (biopsy) and polyps can be removed.

To schedule a Colonoscopy or other Preventative Screening call 1-877-LACKS-MI or 616-752-LACK(S).
