Integrative therapies such as acupuncture and massage may be used along with mainstream care to manage symptoms, relieve stress and enhance quality of life for cancer patients. These therapies are administered on both an inpatient and outpatient basis, and are effective in helping individuals cope with the physical, emotional and spiritual effects of cancer. Inpatient Care Services. Saint Mary’s Integrative Medicine Program offers patients staying in our hospital focused care that combines the best of conventional medicine with innovative holistic therapies, such as acupuncture and massage. These therapies promise real benefits including reducing the length of hospital stay, alleviating pain, reducing fatigue and nausea, strengthening muscles, increasing circulation and joint flexibility, decreasing depression, anxiety and stress-related complications, and improving patients’ overall well-being. For the convenience of our inpatients, certain integrative therapies are offered at no additional cost, and can be requested through an attending physician or nurse.

Outpatient Care Services. The expert staff of physicians and specialists at our Wege Institute for Mind, Body & Spirit provides outpatient services, which consist of both traditional and non-traditional integrative therapies. Our staff offers a personalized plan to meet the therapeutic needs of each individual. Patients in need of pain management, fatigue and nausea reduction, muscle strengthening, relief from depression, anxiety or stress-related complications can greatly benefit from our services. Available therapies include acupuncture, massage therapy, energy therapy, music therapy, holistic consult, and meditation/visualization.
